Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Adult Psychiatric Nurse to join our team at Pinewood Springs. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide direct and indirect patient care, demonstrating knowledge of human growth and development, assessment, and treatment of patients appropriate to the ages of patients served.

Responsibilities
  • Assure suicide, elopement, and other precautions are conducted according to need/order identified
  • Maintain a therapeutic milieu, locked unit, locked sharps, and assess the safety of the unit each shift
  • Conduct or delegate searches of patients for contraband upon admission and when need is indicated
  • Provide direct care in accordance with nursing care plans as developed by RN
  • Demonstrate knowledge of human growth and development, assessment, range of treatment, and care of patients appropriate to the ages of patients served
  • Document patient data, nursing interventions, patient response, effectiveness, and complications
  • Identify potential nursing problems/changes in patient status, informing appropriate team members
  • Interact with patients and families to assist RN in developing and implementing an individualized plan of care for the patient
  • Assist in assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient discharge plan
  • Adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilize appropriate pain management techniques. Educate the patient and family regarding pain management and the patient/family role in medication safety
  • Assist RN in implementing teaching plans based upon patients identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning
  • Family is included in teaching as appropriate
  • Provide direct patient care and adjust nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care
  • Monitor hemodynamic status of patient and correctly interpret the results
  • Demonstrate knowledge of monitoring specific to patient population and intervene as indicated
  • Implement and document timely interventions appropriate to patient needs
  • Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families
  • Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors
  • Demonstrate knowledge of medications and medication effects based on age of the patient and their clinical condition
  • Follow the five medication rights to reduce the potential for medication error
  • Reassess patients systematically to identify outcomes of care and identifies needs that require intervention, documents findings
  • Evaluate patients response to treatment/care and assists RN in revising plan of care
  • Work collaboratively with SSRs to assure appropriate utilization of services and to plan for post-discharge needs, while keeping RN informed
  • Treat patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identify and address psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families
  • Acknowledge and implement physician orders in a timely manner
  • Assist physicians with procedures specific to department
  • Report on all incidents or unusual events to the RN prior to end of shift. Complete occurrence reports as directed
  • Provide shift reports that reflect the patients status, progress, and needs
  • Support a restraint-free environment utilizing preventative measures and de-escalation skills/techniques
Requirements
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN)
