Maintenance Technician Job Description

The Maintenance Technician is a critical role at RTP Company, responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and effective operation of equipment used in our facility. This position requires a proactive approach to preventative maintenance, with a focus on improving equipment reliability and lifespan.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform routine repairs, preventative maintenance, and troubleshoot maintenance issues on standardized equipment
  • Respond to production requests for immediate attention to production line breakdowns
  • Assist in maintaining the organization of the maintenance shop and adequate parts inventory
  • Document work completed as required, including logs, data reports, and procedures
  • Communicate and collaborate with other departments regarding the status of maintenance projects and needs
  • Participate in training, retraining, and continual improvement processes and methods
  • Ensure the plant is maintained in accordance with housekeeping policies and guidelines
  • Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations
Requirements:
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-speed environment, follow standardized work processes, and adhere to safe work practices in a continuous improvement environment
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to demonstrate courtesy and tact with people at various levels within the company
  • Ability to multi-task and work both as a team and independently
  • Strong time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks
  • General computer skills, ability to read and interpret schematics and blueprints, and accurate color vision
  • Ability to maintain a clean and safe workspace
  • Valid driver's license and ability to pass a forklift, boom lift, scissor lift, and respirator fit test
  • Dependability and excellent attendance, with the ability to work overtime as needed
Education and Experience:
  • Two-year technical degree in a maintenance-related field or a combination of education and experience
  • Two years of experience as a Maintenance Technician, with plastic extrusion experience preferred
  • Forklift and Scissor lift maintenance experience, as well as basic electrical knowledge, are also preferred
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

The Maintenance Technician role may involve exposure to moving mechanical parts, wet and/or humid conditions, dust, fumes, airborne particles, and risk of electric shock and non-hazardous chemical agents. Regularly, the role requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, as well as using hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Frequently, the role involves lifting and/or moving up to 60 pounds, working in temperature extremes, and exposure to noise levels above the OSHA action level requiring the use of hearing protection. Occasionally, the role requires sitting, handling up to 250 pounds, and working at elevated heights of approximately 30 feet.
