ENTRY SALARY: $73,000 or $25.93 to $29.51 (Plus Benefits)

The county is seeking to hire a qualified individual for the role of Civil Engineering Intern or Engineering Technician. The ideal candidate will possess the necessary qualifications for either position. The Civil Engineering Intern role is designed for recent graduates, while the Engineering Technician position may require relevant work experience or a diploma from a technical program.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
As part of the team, you will be responsible for conducting thorough inspections on various Secondary Roads construction projects. This includes utilizing technical testing methods and equipment to ensure compliance with all applicable Federal, State, and local regulations. You will also assist with project documentation, surveying, design, and other special projects as assigned by the County Engineer or their representative.

Specific Duties Include:
  • Collaborating with the County Engineer to develop short and long-term plans for maintaining existing infrastructure.
  • Evaluating rural and municipal infrastructure issues and providing recommendations.
  • Assisting in the planning, design, and coordination of infrastructure construction and maintenance projects.
  • Monitoring project completion to ensure adherence to plans and specifications.
  • Determining right-of-way acquisition needs and negotiating purchases.
  • Contributing to the development of engineering plans and specifications, and evaluating contractor bids.
  • Conducting inspections of construction projects to ensure compliance with standards and specifications.
  • Testing materials used in construction projects to verify compliance with specifications.
  • Preparing various reports related to construction activities.
  • Reviewing contractor payrolls and project documentation for accuracy.
  • Participating in field and construction surveys.
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree from an ABET accredited Civil or Construction Engineering program.
  • Preferred experience in county engineering or extensive construction and design experience.
  • Professional Engineer license in the state of Iowa is desirable.
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of county, state, and federal regulations related to infrastructure.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficiency in using standard office equipment and relevant software.
