Job Title: Preschool Paraprofessional

Join the Lafayette School team as a Preschool Paraprofessional and play a vital role in supporting the education and care of young learners in our Little Bronchos program.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and caring individual to work directly under the supervision of our Little Bronchos Coordinator. As a Preschool Paraprofessional, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and instruction of students across all activities and locations. You will also maintain complete confidentiality about students and their records.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with students' arrival to and departure from school, including helping bus drivers and students with adaptive equipment and monitoring the physical welfare of students.
  • Accompany students in different school and community settings, or escort students between different locations, such as classrooms, libraries, computer labs, and community-based activity locations.
  • Assist students with personal hygiene and other activities of daily living, following universal precautions.
  • Assist teachers with functional assessment activities to gather information about students' current levels of performance, both strengths and needs.
  • Work with individual and small groups of students using age and developmentally appropriate curriculum activities.
  • Tutor individuals or small groups of students using instructional objectives and methods developed by teachers and other professional practitioners.
  • Lift, transfer, seat, or position students for functional participation in activities using instructional objectives and methods developed by teachers, occupational therapists, and physical therapists.
  • Implement behavior management strategies using the same emphasis and techniques as the teacher and behavior consultant.
  • Assist with supplementary work for students and supervise independent study.
  • Conduct prescribed/standardized reading and math programs.
  • Assist the teacher with crisis intervention and discipline.
  • Supervise playground, lunchroom, and other student settings.
  • Operate equipment and assistive technology devices, such as audio-visual, office, communication devices, computers, and seating and other positioning equipment.
  • Prepare classroom materials and bulletin boards, and maintain classroom supplies.
  • Set up and maintain classroom equipment and learning centers.
  • Prepare individualized instructional materials.
  • Observe and record information about students' performance and behavior.
  • Record attendance, maintain records, such as grade books and medication administration records, and perform other clerical tasks.
  • Attend staff or IEP meetings at the request of the teacher or administrative personnel.
  • With teacher instruction, will independently study materials to develop skills and knowledge of classroom curriculum/procedures/best practices and use of equipment and/or technology.
  • Perform general duties appropriate to type of class as requested by the Coordinator.
  • Maintain records of students' progress.
  • Meet CCDF and Paths To Quality staff requirements.
Requirements:
  • Child Development Associate Certification preferred.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification.
  • 20 hours of online Early Childhood Education training.
  • Ability to work and relate well with young children.
  • Dependable.
  • Punctual and consistent attendance.
