American Cruise Lines seeks a skilled Mate to oversee the safe operation of our fleet sailing along the East Coast, Pacific Northwest, Columbia-Snake Rivers, and Mississippi-Ohio-Cumberland Rivers. Our U.S. flag ships are state-of-the-art vessels designed for safe operation and five-star service to 100-200 guests.

The ideal candidate will have experience as a senior shipboard officer, responsible for adherence to company and regulatory standards, and representing the company as a professional leader and example. As a Mate, you will be an experienced mariner with piloting experience in challenging coastal and river waterways, skilled at team and time management, and a prudent decision-maker continually reducing risk by keeping crew tasks ahead of daily and weekly schedules. Additionally, you will be a people-oriented leader and meticulous professional, dedicated to providing excellent service to our guests and serving as a positive example to our crews.

The responsibilities of this role include:Key Responsibilities:
  • Safety and security of passengers, crew, and vessel.
  • Prudent vessel watchkeeping and safe vessel operations, adhering to company and regulatory standards.
  • Daily inspection of all vessel interior and exterior spaces.
  • Supervision and development of third mates, engineers, and deckhands.
  • Execution of vessel cleaning, sanitation, maintenance, and logistics.
  • Execution of crew orientation, training, watch standing, and emergency drills.
  • Teamwork with hotel officers and service crew ensuring five-star guest service.
  • Administrative documentation of cleaning, sanitation, maintenance, and logistics.
  • Leadership of a safe, secure, clean, and comfortable onboard environment for passengers and crew.
