Job Title: Building Official

Join the City of Laredo, TX team as a Building Official, responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Building Code Enforcement department. As a key member of the team, you will render interpretations for building permits, prepare departmental goals and objectives, and authorize finalized permit decisions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and direct assigned staff, making hiring and termination decisions, prioritizing assignments, and developing employee work schedules.
  • Provide customer service via phone, email, or in person, addressing complaints, waivers, variations, or determinations of code regulations.
  • Gather, interpret, and prepare technical data for studies, reports, and recommendations to Director, City Managers, Elected Officials, and other City Departments.
  • Oversee and work closely with plan examiners, building inspectors, code enforcers, and permit clerks in the management of commercial and residential building permit activity.
  • Authorize finalization of permits for issuing of Certificates of Occupancy.
  • Ensure code enforcement staff minimize unpermitted construction activity and address customer complaints in a timely manner.
  • Prepare City Council agenda items as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Construction Science, Architecture, Engineering, or related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in construction, engineering, or related field.
  • Valid Texas Driver License.
