Job Title: HVAC Technician/Trades Technician III

Longwood University is seeking a highly skilled HVAC Technician/Trades Technician III to join its Facilities Management and Operations team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing maintenance and repair work on a variety of heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment essential to the operation of the university.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform maintenance and repair or replacement of equipment related to HVAC
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and university codes, regulations, standards, and policies
  • Operate systems at the proper times to meet comfort and energy conservation
  • Repair refrigeration equipment, including ice machines, walk-in refrigerators and freezers, and reach-in boxes, while ensuring safety standards are met
  • Monitor temperatures to ensure food storage meets specifications
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and install variable frequency drives
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
  • Valid driver's license
  • EPA certified refrigeration license
  • Knowledge of heating, cooling, and ventilation equipment, VFD's
  • Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively
  • Extensive knowledge of the National Electrical Code preferred
  • Ability to safely and frequently move and handle heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to climb and work from elevated work stations
  • Ability to work for long periods standing, walking, reaching, bending, pushing/pulling
  • Extensive experience or technical training on commercial type air conditioning, refrigeration, and heating equipment with associated controls
  • Ability to troubleshoot, repair, or replace commercial type air conditioning, refrigeration, and heating equipment
  • Working knowledge of Building Automation Systems (BAS) and/or HVAC control systems
  • Computer knowledge with ability to operate within the university's Computerized Maintenance Management Control system (CMMS)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

This is a full-time, classified, non-exempt position in a pay band 3. A successful criminal background investigation is required.
