Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Bakery Department Manager to oversee the daily operations of our bakery department. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring exceptional customer service, managing department finances, and leading a team of associates to achieve business performance goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide customers with a remarkable shopping experience by demonstrating excellent customer service skills and holding associates accountable for delivering exceptional service.
  • Achieve department financials by identifying and implementing best practices, optimizing strategies, and utilizing innovative solutions.
  • Directly lead department staff, focusing on accountability and achieving high-level business performance outcomes.
  • Develop department staff through annual appraisals, supervision reports, and performance reviews.
  • Implement department visual merchandising and plan, emphasizing freshness and innovation.
  • Effectively utilize resources to improve productivity, flexibility, and efficiency of labor and quality of shopping experience.
  • Oversee schematic implementation, stocking standards, item-to-tag integrity, and back-room organization.
  • Manage product rotation, spoils, shrink, and markdowns.
  • Ensure department cleanliness and conditions.
  • Manage sign and price integrity.
  • Prepare bakery products according to banner guidelines and special orders as requested by customers.
  • Train department staff on department procedures, including food preparation and packaging, hands-on safety, and food safety.
  • Order product using the order/inventory system, pre-orders, and promotion/seasonal planning.
  • Analyze and manage product performance to maximize sales and profitability.
  • Manage department inventory accuracy.
  • Contribute to overall store conditions, ensuring a safe working and shopping experience.
Requirements
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, leadership/team building, and training skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills and suggestive selling ability.
  • Strong organization, administration, and math skills.
Knowledge of:
  • Department operations and financials.
  • Bakery products.
  • Department food safety and hazardous materials rules/regulations.
  • Baking and decorating techniques.
  • Visual merchandising techniques.
  • Use and care of professional bakery equipment and tools.
  • Applicable union contractual agreement language.
Education:

One year of college (or equivalent knowledge gained through formal education, specialized training, or additional job experience).

Experience:

Two years of bakery department experience or in a current produce, meat, or center store department manager role.

Physical:

Requires standing and other physical movements on a frequent basis. Requires lifting up to 40 lbs.
