At Baystate Health, we are seeking a motivated individual to join our team as a Healthcare Support Associate in the Apprentice Nurse Program. This role offers an exciting opportunity for students enrolled in a Registered Nurse (RN) program to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced acute care nursing environment.

The position provides a supportive role to a Registered Nurse, working collaboratively with the healthcare team in the management of patient care. As a Healthcare Support Associate, you will have the opportunity to provide care to a diverse patient population, develop strong communication and organizational skills, and work towards your goal of becoming a registered nurse.

In this role, you will be responsible for performing direct patient care, obtaining and recording vital signs, collecting laboratory specimens, documenting intake/output, communicating effectively with patients/staff, promoting patient safety, and functioning as a team member within the health system. You will also have opportunities for professional development, support, and encouragement to enhance your confidence and skills.

The schedule for this role is flexible, with a minimum of 200 hours annually, excluding orientation time. During the school year, you can work up to 36 hours in a 12-week period if feasible while actively enrolled and participating in classes. During the summer, you can work 24 hours per week, fulfilled in an 8- or 12-hour shift, along with a weekend requirement of 24 hours every four weeks.

To be eligible for this role, you must have a high school degree or equivalent, be currently actively enrolled and participating in an accredited Registered Nurse nursing program, possess current American Heart Association BLS for the Health Care provider CPR Certification, and have successfully completed one clinical rotation or have six months of applicable direct patient care experience.
