About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Herdsperson Trainee at Smithfield Foods. As a key member of our farm operations team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the health and well-being of our animals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the daily care and maintenance of our livestock, including feeding, watering, and vaccinations.
  • Perform general animal husbandry tasks, such as cleaning and sanitizing facilities, and assisting with animal movements.
  • Operate farm equipment, including tractors and trucks, as directed.
  • Process piglets, including injections, castrations, and ear notching.
  • Maintain accurate production records and update department records as required.
  • Treat sick animals with pharmaceuticals, as needed.
  • Follow Standard Operation Procedures and Production Manuals.
  • Assist with facility and equipment maintenance.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous livestock handling experience helpful.
  • Ability to perform hard physical labor.
  • Strong commitment to teamwork and communication.
  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing situations.
  • Ability to work well with others and build strong working relationships.
Work Environment

The work environment at Smithfield Foods is dynamic and fast-paced. You will be working in a team environment, with a focus on animal care and farm operations. You will be required to work in a variety of weather conditions and be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
