Position Overview:
The Sales Territory Manager is tasked with driving sales growth within designated routes. The ideal candidate will cultivate, sustain, and enhance business, social, and community relationships with clients and sales representatives in the assigned area to maximize profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain collaborative partnerships with sales representatives, store managers, and key customer decision-makers.
- Ensure company representatives comprehend expectations and communicate how they will achieve and align with organizational goals, including regular updates. Submit all training materials to the Human Resources Department.
- Meet sales targets while delivering exceptional customer service to various client accounts.
- Identify potential leads, manage prospects, and secure new business opportunities.
- Visit customer and prospective client locations to provide necessary information and support to secure and maintain business relationships.
- Expand business by anticipating customer needs, identifying suitable solutions to business challenges, and delivering a high level of customer service.
- Establish and maintain regular communication with major retail chain District Managers to support sales and service objectives.
- Develop rapport and trust with all key management personnel through consistent visits and communication.
- Create a customized sales strategy with comprehensive knowledge of specific retail customers and the complete product portfolio to drive growth opportunities.
- Follow through on agreed sales/service commitments to exceed expectations of store management.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of company products and pricing structures.
- Manage assigned leads generated by the company.
- Conduct scheduled and in-person prospecting activities to establish initial and follow-up meetings with key decision-makers.
- Communicate regularly with the Division Sales Manager regarding sales activities, progress towards goals, and status of prospective clients.
- Periodically visit stores to assess service strengths and opportunities for improvement.
- Ensure weekly customer visits to negotiate promotions and secure additional space/displays; a minimum of two visits per week.
- Participate in grand openings and store anniversaries.
- Review weekly Out-of-Stock (OOS) reports to address deficiencies adequately.
- Utilize effective time management skills to service stores and establish customer relationships appropriately. This is crucial for our major clients, who require a reliable contact for any issues.
- Develop a contingency plan for organizing, re-routing, or managing a route as necessary. Ensure route documentation is well-organized.
- Ensure stores receive adequate service without discrepancies.
- Adhere to all procedures regarding access to the back of the truck or unloading.
- Attend all mandatory weekly safety meetings.
- Ensure all equipment is in proper working order.
- Verify that truck inventory complies with company standards.
- Follow all company policies, including personal hygiene standards.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Ability to work both indoors and outdoors while visiting clients, as this role requires the use of a company vehicle.
- Capable of interacting with various types of customers in-store, including store greeters and back-store receivers.
- Ability to lift 20 to 40 pounds.
- Maintain cleanliness of the vehicle and/or truck at all times.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, including wearing a back brace while lifting cases; bending at the knees to organize products in some stores may be necessary.
- Bachelor's Degree preferred, but not mandatory.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in retail or field-based sales.
- Familiarity with basic computer functions (downloading documents, email, internet, Microsoft Word, etc.).
- Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and present a professional image representing clients.
- Timely communication with management via phone or email.
- Experience using personal devices such as smartphones or tablets and computers.
- Valid driver's license, full coverage auto insurance, and a clean driving record are required.
- Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
