Our Opportunity

We are seeking a talented Software Engineer III (AI/ML) to join our customer service technology team in one of our hub locations. This is a high-profile position that will have exposure across the entire business, influencing the vision and implementation of architecture, design and features for an AI platform.

This role allows you to act as an Individual Contributor, part of a team of strong engineers building functionality to improve Chewy's customer servicing capabilities using AI and ML.

What You'll Do:

  • You will participate in working with top engineers at Chewy to evolve the architecture direction of all development at Chewy.
  • You will be responsible for designing, developing, integrating, training, delivering, fine-tuning, and supporting large-scale AI/LLM models.
  • You will lead engineering efforts and work with the team and partner teams to define the technical roadmap.
  • You will drive innovation through rapid prototyping and iterative development.
  • You will coach and mentor engineers on the team.

What You'll Need:

  • 10 years of experience in software development as a software engineer.
  • 3+ years of building and designing ML application platforms at scale.
  • 3+ years of back-end Java experience.
  • 3+ years of experience with NLP.
  • 1+ years of experience with Generative AI.
  • Strong knowledge of Python.
  • Knowledge of cloud & orchestration technologies (AWS Services, Terraform, Jenkins, etc).
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices for the full software development lifecycle including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Strong communication skills as well as experience in mentoring and educating your peers.

Bonus (if applicable):

  • Master's or PhD in Machine Learning.
  • Experience in e-commerce and/or customer service technology.
  • Experience deploying large-scale neural networks in a production environment.

Compensation & Benefits:

The estimated salary for this position is $134,500 - $214,000 per year. Our comprehensive benefits package includes 401k, equity grants, medical/Rx, vision, dental, life, disability, hospital indemnity, critical illness, and accident insurance. We also offer parental leave, family services benefits, backup dependent care, flexible spending accounts, telemedicine, pet adoption reimbursement, employee assistance program, and many discounts including 10% off pet insurance and 20% off at Chewy.com.

As a salaried-exempt team member, you will receive unlimited PTO, subject to manager approval, and six paid holidays per year. You may be eligible for paid sick and family leave in compliance with applicable state and local regulations.
