The Head of Aviation Operations will oversee the secure and effective management of the Academy's aircraft and flight training initiatives. This role entails the administration of United Aviate Academy's (UAA) flight department, including scheduling, personnel management, and budget oversight. The Head will also supervise background verifications, health assessments, and training prerequisites for all company pilots and aircraft, ensuring compliance with FAA standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish operational policies and standards, focusing on safety protocols.
  • Foster a culture of efficiency and execution to cultivate a high-performing team.
  • Assess UAA equipment for usability, safety, and adherence to FAA standards.
  • Engage in FAA test flights and ground evaluations.
  • Continuously enhance job performance through regulatory and certification knowledge.
  • Lead and expand the flight operations team and its capabilities.
  • Document requirements and coordinate logistics for remote flight operations.
  • Ensure compliance with administrative policies, safety regulations, and government mandates.
  • Monitor expenditures to align with approved budgets.
  • Organize and manage team workflows to meet organizational goals.
  • Develop and implement flight department policies and procedures.
  • Provide leadership to flight operation team members, including Chief Pilot of Standardization and Chief Pilot of Instructors.
  • Conduct performance reviews for direct reports in line with Academy standards.
  • Collaborate with department members on scheduling to optimize aircraft and personnel utilization.
  • Work with Finance to create and maintain the flight department's operating budget.
  • Advise management on aircraft and equipment needs, staying informed about industry advancements.
  • Engage with stakeholders across Finance, Human Resources, Safety & Security, and Academy Services.
  • Exhibit strong communication and leadership skills to motivate and mentor team members.
  • Design and manage Flight Operations KPIs, addressing issues proactively and driving effective results.
  • Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal regulations regarding flight operations and training.
  • Promote flight safety across the operations department, supported by the Chief of Standards and Chief of Instruction.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement to enhance student experiences.
  • Support the Chief Flight Instructor in liaising with the FAA for compliance.
  • Participate in management meetings to ensure alignment across business functions.
  • Assist with special projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of management and leadership experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience in aviation.
  • 3+ years of aviation management experience, with knowledge of FAR Part 141.
  • Experience in managing personnel, budgets, and vendor contracts.
  • Familiarity with FAA regulations and compliance tracking.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in business or aviation management or equivalent leadership experience.
