Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Medical Director, the Nuclear Medicine Technician II performs a range of technical procedures that necessitate independent judgment, creativity, and initiative in the application of radionuclides for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
This role includes responsibility for specific procedural areas and may involve instructional duties in areas of expertise.
The primary focus is to prioritize patient care and deliver the highest quality of service as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
Responsibilities include conducting examinations on patients across all age groups, from pediatric to geriatric.
Key Responsibilities
• Operate equipment and select appropriate technical parameters tailored to individual patients, ensuring accurate film identification and assisting in equipment calibration and radioisotope assay operations.
• Execute clerical tasks such as inputting and editing exam data, ensuring requisitions are completed prior to submission to the radiologist.
• Position and transfer patients effectively for examinations to achieve optimal in-vivo imaging results as per physician directives.
• Provide necessary immobilization and safety measures in compliance with established standards.
• Assist physicians during examinations by preparing and administering radiopharmaceuticals under their guidance, as well as aiding in sterile procedures.
• Maintain cleanliness and orderliness in work areas, ensuring contamination-free conditions for rooms, equipment, and personnel.
• Demonstrate exemplary customer service principles and behaviors.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• An Associate degree or equivalent in Radiology Technology is preferred.
Licensure/Certification:
• Texas Medical Board-MRT license is required.
• Current BCLS certification is mandatory.
• ARRT or NMCT certification is required.
Experience:
• A minimum of one year of full-time experience in clinical Nuclear Medicine imaging, including didactic training, is preferred.
Skills and Knowledge
• Proficient understanding of anatomy, positioning, and Nuclear Medicine techniques is essential.
• Familiarity with radio-pharmaceutical storage, radiation safety, and related concepts is required.
• Knowledge of blood specimen testing techniques is necessary.
• Ability to interpret medical terminology and accurately calculate and administer radiopharmaceutical doses in a safe manner.
• Strong analytical skills for evaluating scans, tests, and results.
• Capacity to exercise discretion and sound judgment with patients during procedures.
• Proficient in English, with the ability to read and interpret physician orders.
• Ability to lift over 100 pounds with assistance.
• Knowledge of hospital policies regarding infection control.
• Effective communication and listening skills are crucial.
• Attendance at mandatory training sessions is required.
• Bilingual in English/Spanish is preferred.
