Job Title: Hourly Public Health Nurse

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Hourly Public Health Nurse to join our team at the DeKalb County Board of Health. As a key member of our Clinical Services division, you will play a vital role in protecting, promoting, and improving the health and well-being of DeKalb County residents.

Job Summary:

The Hourly Public Health Nurse will be responsible for identifying high-risk populations and developing targeted interventions to address their needs. You will provide treatments, administer medications and vaccines, and offer preventive and maintenance care to patients and families in accordance with nurse protocols. Additionally, you will screen and refer clients to other community service providers, participate in program planning and evaluation, and conduct comprehensive assessments of clients' healthcare needs.

Responsibilities:
  • Identify high-risk populations and develop targeted interventions to address their needs.
  • Provide treatments, administer medications and vaccines, and offer preventive and maintenance care to patients and families in accordance with nurse protocols.
  • Screen and refer clients to other community service providers.
  • Participate in program planning and evaluation.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients' healthcare needs.
  • Develop comprehensive plans of care for individuals, families, and populations.
  • Modify client treatment plans as indicated by clients' responses and conditions.
  • Provide health education instruction and/or classes to individuals, families, and communities.
  • Develop and sustain community partnerships.
  • Participate in drills and exercises on pandemic influenza, mass sheltering, and mass dispensing.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university.
  • Current Georgia license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse.
  • CPR certification.
  • One year of PHN experience (or equivalent) and completion of a PHN course within one year of hire (for Associate's degree in nursing graduates).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience in a medical office setting with excellent customer service skills.
  • Public Health experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge and usage of computers and Windows Software related programs.
  • The ability to translate English to Spanish and Spanish to English orally and in writing is preferred but not required.
