POSITION SUMMARY:
The Rehabilitation Specialist is responsible for designing and implementing therapeutic interventions aimed at enhancing the functional abilities of patients. This role emphasizes patient advocacy within the Rehabilitation Department.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Conducts assessments and provides treatment for patients in both inpatient and outpatient environments.

• Collaborates with healthcare professionals to formulate individualized treatment strategies for patients.

• Completes patient evaluations promptly following physical referrals, tailored to the level of care required.

• Oversees Certified Rehabilitation Assistants in delivering patient care and related tasks.

• Administers treatments in accordance with physician-approved plans and monitors patient progress diligently.

• Engages in communication with the Director of Rehabilitation Services, medical staff, and interdisciplinary team members regarding patient status and care plans.

• Actively participates in patient care meetings and weekly rehabilitation discussions.

• Maintains accurate documentation of treatments and outcomes daily, adhering to all regulatory and professional standards.

• Contributes to policy development and procedural meetings.

• Involves in training programs to ensure high-quality care delivery among staff.

• Records treatment sessions and associated charges in compliance with departmental policies.

• Develops and instructs caregivers on personalized maintenance and home exercise programs for patients.

• Assists in planning for patient discharge.

• Secures necessary medical and adaptive equipment to promote patient independence.

• Acts as a clinical mentor for students from Occupational Therapy programs.

• Coordinates clinical services with other departments to enhance operational efficiency.

• Provides updates to the Director of Rehabilitation regarding departmental initiatives, challenges, and achievements.

• Adheres to state regulations and national standards relevant to Occupational Therapy practice.

• Demonstrates proficiency in utilizing various Occupational Therapy modalities and equipment.

• Effectively manages resources and maintains equipment to ensure longevity.

• Checks internal communications regularly to stay informed of departmental updates.

• Performs additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:
• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy.

EXPERIENCE:
• At least one year of experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings, particularly in developmental disabilities and neurological/orthopedic conditions.

• Preferred experience in feeding and swallowing assessments and treatments, including E-Stim applications.

CERTIFICATION:
• Licensed by the relevant state board and certified by the national board for Occupational Therapy.

• Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.

• Must maintain all necessary certifications and licenses throughout employment.
