Job Summary

The R&D Lab Technician I will play a critical role in supporting the Research and Development team by performing routine and non-routine testing and analyses using technical equipment and instruments under laboratory conditions. This position will involve mixing formulations, evaluating films, and supporting testing for new product development, color development, and product improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine and non-routine tests and analyses using technical equipment and test methods.
  • Support new product development, new color development, change qualifications, and product improvement testing requirements.
  • Collect and process data for analysis, maintaining accurate information in technical databases.
  • Formulate and update custom colors in a timely manner to meet customer expectations.
  • Interact with Product Management and R&D to ensure timely delivery of colored samples.
  • Update and maintain color formulas, pigments, and pre-dispersions in color databases.
  • Process, analyze, and resolve customer color complaints.
  • Develop knowledge of internal test methods and follow guidelines to support custom color matching processes.
  • Collaborate with Operations to ensure a smooth process in color scale-up.
  • Manage and maintain lab inventory.
  • Follow safety protocols to operate, maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot lab equipment.
  • Practice safe work habits, complying with all safety, health, and environmental rules and regulations.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in a scientific discipline, such as Chemistry or Engineering, or equivalent mix of education and work experience.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working in a lab and operating test equipment.
  • Familiarity with X-Rite Spectrophotometer, color printer, laminator, plotter, or similar instruments.
  • Familiarity with color match formulation software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Pass the Munsell Color test and demonstrate good color acuity.
  • Strong communication skills, including listening, verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively read, write, and speak English.

Additional Qualifications

  • Prior experience in chemical formulation of PVC, urethans, acrylic clear coats, and/or pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA).
  • Formal education beyond an Associate degree level.

Pay Transparency

The current pay rate for this position is $27.00/hr. Rate of pay will depend on factors such as market conditions and location, job-related knowledge and skills, education, training, and experience. If hired, employment will be at will, and the Company reserves the right to modify pay and any other discretionary payment or compensation program at any time.
