POSITION SUMMARY:
The Teacher I is accountable for the design and execution of an early childhood education program tailored for preschool-aged children, adhering to the standards and guidelines set forth by the agency. This role emphasizes the importance of fostering school readiness, engaging parents, and ensuring the well-being and safety of children in our care. The Teacher I operates under the guidance of the Teacher III to facilitate program functions that align with DCP's objectives and desired outcomes. Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor. A Preschool CDA or equivalent must be obtained within two years of employment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Effective Teaching Strategies: Assists in the application of the High Scope curriculum, leveraging agency resources and insights from subject matter experts.
- Ensures that all classroom activities are developmentally suitable and enriching for children's learning experiences.
- Monitors and organizes classroom activities using data from COR Advantage, ensuring timely and thorough child assessments.
- Content Area Engagement:
- Creates a welcoming atmosphere for parents at the center, promoting their involvement in their children's educational journey. Collaborates with parents to establish realistic long-term and short-term objectives that support their development and financial stability.
- Partners with the classroom team to implement recommendations from content area specialists, mental health professionals, and special needs providers.
- Learning Environment Management:
- Maintains constant supervision of children, ensuring safety during transitions.
- Assists in creating engaging learning spaces that encourage independence and reflect children's interests through the display and rotation of materials.
- Conducts daily safety inspections of the classroom and playground to identify hazards, addressing or reporting unsafe conditions promptly.
- Ensures that environments are visually appealing to children, minimizing adult spaces in classrooms, and maintaining cleanliness and order.
- Observation and Documentation:
- Accurately enters data weekly into ChildPlus and COR Advantage software.
- Assists in conducting developmental assessments, including hearing, vision, and social-emotional evaluations with parental input within 45 days of enrollment and on a scheduled basis thereafter.
- Completes documentation punctually, ensuring clarity, grammatical accuracy, and objectivity.
- Communication Skills:
- Conducts a minimum of two home visits and two parent conferences annually, following agency policies.
- Communicates children's individual progress and needs to parents through various channels, including daily interactions, phone calls, notes, home visits, and parent-teacher conferences. Involves parents in planning and executing their child's readiness strategies.
- Facilitates consistent communication among classroom staff to ensure effective planning and follow-up.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding family information, sharing details only with those who require it to provide services.
- Engages in child recruitment and outreach initiatives within local communities to achieve full enrollment.
- Professional Development:
- Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all agency policies and procedures.
- Provides supervision for all substitutes and volunteers in the classroom, in line with DCP's supervision standards.
- Upholds professional boundaries in relationships with families and colleagues, distinguishing personal needs from professional responsibilities.
- Acts as a role model for families and staff by making sound decisions and reflecting on personal practices, seeking opportunities for skill enhancement and knowledge growth.
