Summary/Description:
The role involves servicing, repairing, and overhauling aircraft to guarantee airworthiness.

Responsibilities include repairing, replacing, and reconstructing aircraft structures of moderate complexity, such as wings, fuselage, surface controls, and functional components. This requires the use of hand tools, power tools, and machinery, including shears, sheet metal brakes, welding equipment, rivet guns, and drills.

The technician will read and interpret manufacturer publications, maintenance manuals, service bulletins, and other specifications to assess the feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.

Inspections of aircraft components for fluid leaks, cracks, and other damages are essential. Troubleshooting, removing, replacing, and repairing aircraft structural and hydraulic system components are part of the job. Additional duties may include servicing aircraft systems. Certification as a CDI may be required by site management. The ability to prioritize workload effectively to maintain schedules and maintenance standards on assigned projects is crucial.

Essential Job Functions:


The candidate will be responsible for maintaining and servicing the F/A-18 environmental and egress systems/components in accordance with applicable publications and governing instructions.

Utilizing technical knowledge of aircraft system principles, the technician will identify equipment malfunctions and apply skills to restore equipment operation. Evaluating performance and reliability of prototype or production modifications and recommending changes to installation specifications to simplify assembly and maintenance is expected.

The Aircraft Mechanic I will apply technical knowledge to resolve aircraft system issues by interpreting manufacturer manuals or similar documents.

Qualifications include being proficient with ground support equipment, special calibration equipment, special tools, and all related maintenance manuals, maintenance requirement cards, parts breakdown manuals, technical directives, diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and drawings.

The member will work on all aircraft systems, extending beyond the Aircraft Mechanic I field of expertise, functioning as a general Aircraft Mechanic I.


Qualifications/Requirements:
Minimum of 3 years of organizational-level aircraft system maintenance experience is required.

Knowledge and use of special tools/equipment necessary for performing assigned maintenance tasks is mandatory.

Shift work may be required.


A high school diploma or equivalent is necessary, along with completion of Navy Aviation Class A School (or military equivalent) for the applied rate or possession of a valid A&P license and recent aviation maintenance experience.

Preferred qualifications include 18 months as a CDI, Quality Assurance Inspector, or Inspector Authorization (IA).

At least 36 months of organizational-level experience is required.
Preferred candidates will have 24 months of F/A-18 experience within the last 36 months.

Completion of the CDI qualification syllabus and all qualifications to obtain CDI within 90 days of employment is necessary.

Additional qualifications or licenses required to maintain aircraft and qualifications must be obtained.

Candidates must be physically capable of performing all assigned duties and able to lift 50 lbs.

Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English is required.


Additional certifications such as Low Power Engine Turn-Up Operator (LPT), High Power Engine Turn-Up Operator (HPT), Collateral Duty Quality Assurance Representative (CDQAR), and/or Plane Captain may be required.


Candidates must have the ability to inspect and maintain all company and customer assets, including all assigned Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), in accordance with applicable directives, ensuring safe, effective, and efficient utilization of those assets.


Participation in the investigation of any injury and/or resolution of any quality or performance issues that may hinder production or be detrimental to the program is expected.

Participation in the training and qualification of new personnel is required.

Effective communication to enhance and encourage employee awareness of accident prevention, quality of work, and environmental compliance is essential.


Positive communication with all site departments, company management, and customers is necessary to ensure proper execution of contracts.


Participation in required daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual training and ensuring timely documentation is mandatory.

Completion of initial attendance sheets daily, verifying start time and proper accounting of all assigned PPE is required.

Maintaining the required clearance level is essential.

Completion of the U.S. Navy AME "A1" Course along with CNATTU Safety Equipment required school for F/A-18 E/F/G prior to hire is necessary.

Ability to obtain and maintain a Tier 3 U.S. Government Clearance is required.
Ability to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization is necessary.
