Job Overview

Position Summary

The Materials Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and directing the daily functions of the Materials Team. This role involves ensuring accurate and safe inventory management to meet customer and organizational expectations. The supervisor sets a positive example in all activities and collaborates with management to train and guide warehouse personnel in achieving established performance metrics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Directs daily operations, addressing team concerns promptly and ensuring all tasks align with customer specifications and company protocols.
  • Delegates responsibilities to team members, evaluates the quality and precision of their outputs, and provides constructive feedback as necessary.
  • Tracks team performance, identifies issues, and contributes to the performance review process, including support for employee evaluations and disciplinary actions.
  • Monitors Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and oversees team performance, including regular updates and corrective measures when KPIs are not achieved.
  • Guides the Materials team in understanding existing procedures and policies while aiding in the creation of efficiencies and process enhancements, including Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) initiatives.
  • Implements assigned process improvement projects.
  • Analyzes and reconciles data from designated Material Handling reports.
  • Ensures compliance with all Safety, Environmental, and Quality standards and procedures.
  • Assists in managing and reviewing the Housekeeping Program.
  • Promotes adherence to 5S standards, ensuring a clean and organized work environment, with necessary resolutions applied.
  • Trains new employees and provides feedback to management regarding their development and specific learning needs.
  • Handles the movement of materials, supplies, and finished goods inventory using radio frequency (RF) and lift truck equipment.
  • Ensures accurate and timely picking, labeling, staging, wrapping, and loading of orders and shipments.
  • Utilizes JDE, RFS, and RF technology for inventory transactions and product shipping.
  • Provides operational support for machinery and fills resource gaps within the department as needed, including setup and teardown of equipment.
  • Conducts complex troubleshooting related to equipment setup, teardown, and operations.
  • Supports team members in backup material handling duties as required based on availability.

Qualifications and Education

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in manufacturing or materials management, including proficiency in operating powered industrial equipment.
  • Associate degree, CPIM certification, or 2 years of leadership experience managing team performance.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Capable of addressing complex issues, escalating only the most challenging problems to higher management.
  • Thorough understanding of Materials and Material Handling operations.
  • Experience in providing leadership, coaching, and mentoring to team members.
  • Skilled in developing, documenting, and enforcing Standard Work procedures.

Skills and Competencies

  • Proficient in interpreting and creating work instructions.
  • Ability to follow both written and verbal instructions effectively.
  • Intermediate communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong mathematical abilities.
  • Familiarity with required gaging instruments and their applications.
  • Intermediate experience with ERP systems (JDE preferred).
  • Manual dexterity and operational skills.
  • Leadership and team-building capabilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

Technical Proficiencies

  • Leadership and People Management.
  • Forklift Operation Certification.
  • Experience in Packaging Processes.
  • Meets Physical Requirements for the role.
  • Basic Computer Skills, including Microsoft Excel.
