Job Title: Youth Peer Specialist

Family Service League Inc. is seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to fill the role of Youth Peer Specialist. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital part in providing support and guidance to youth and families in need.

Job Summary

We are looking for a highly motivated and empathetic individual who has personal experience with mental health or behavioral challenges. Your lived experience will enable you to connect with our clients on a deeper level and provide them with the support and guidance they need to overcome their challenges.

Responsibilities
  • Provide weekly meetings with caregivers/family members in their home and community to develop skills and strategies to support their child's mental and physical health, development, and well-being.
  • Engage in discussions, psychoeducation, self-advocacy, empowerment, and parenting skills development to support caregivers/family members.
  • Document progress and communication in an Electronic Health Record and conduct regular communication with team members.
  • Develop Treatment Plan Goals and provide community resources and general support to caregivers/family members and youth.
  • Transport caregivers/family members and youth as needed and work collaboratively with other CFTSS and Care Management staff.
  • Participate in weekly supervision and monthly staff meetings and perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • A Youth Peer Advocate credential is required.
  • Must be an individual 18 to 30 years old who has self-identified as having first-hand experience with mental health or behavioral challenges, or co-occurring disorders.
  • Prior knowledge of mental health conditions and prior experience working with children, preferably children with special needs required.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office, are required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, engagement, and verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Ability to be creative and present ideas and skills in a variety of ways is required.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
  • Valid and clean New York State Driver's License and own a reliable car that is properly insured, registered, and maintained to drive from worksite to worksite required.
