Job Title: Youth Peer Specialist

Family Service League Inc. is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Youth Peer Specialist to join our team. As a Peer Specialist, you will work closely with caregivers and family members to provide support and guidance to youth and families in need.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide weekly meetings with caregivers/family members in their homes and communities to discuss goals and develop strategies for improving mental and physical health, development, and well-being.
  • Engage in various activities to support caregivers/family members, including discussions, psychoeducation, self-advocacy, empowerment, and parenting skills development.
  • Document progress and communicate regularly with team members and supervisors.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans to address the unique needs of each family.
  • Provide community resources and general support to families in need.
  • Transport caregivers/family members and youth as necessary.
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure comprehensive support for families.
  • Participate in regular supervision and team meetings to ensure best practices and continuous improvement.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Youth Peer Advocate credential required.
  • Must be an individual 18 to 30 years old who has self-identified as having first-hand experience with mental health or behavioral challenges, or co-occurring disorders.
  • Prior knowledge of mental health conditions and experience working with children, preferably children with special needs, is required.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office, are required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, engagement, and verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Ability to be creative and present ideas and skills in a variety of ways is required.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
  • Valid and clean New York State Driver's License and own a reliable car that is properly insured, registered, and maintained to drive from worksite to worksite is required.
