Position Summary

The Chemotherapy Clinical Nurse Specialist is responsible for providing advanced nursing care to patients undergoing chemotherapy treatments.

This role involves administering chemotherapy, monitoring patient responses, managing side effects, and providing expert advice to both patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Chemotherapy Administration: Safely administer chemotherapy treatments in accordance with established protocols and patient-specific care plans.
  2. Patient Monitoring: Closely monitor patients for adverse reactions or side effects during and after chemotherapy, and take appropriate action as needed.
  3. Care Coordination: Collaborate with oncologists, pharmacists, and other healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive and coordinated care for each patient.
  4. Patient Education: Provide education to patients and their families regarding chemotherapy treatment, potential side effects, and post-treatment care.
  5. Symptom Management: Assist in managing side effects of chemotherapy, including nausea, fatigue, and other symptoms, by providing appropriate interventions and support.
  6. Expert Consultation: Serve as a resource for other healthcare professionals, offering expert advice on chemotherapy protocols and patient management.
  7. Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed records of all chemotherapy treatments, patient responses, and any complications, ensuring compliance with agency and regulatory standards.
  8. Emotional Support: Offer emotional support and counseling to patients and their families, helping them cope with the physical and emotional challenges of chemotherapy.
  9. Quality Assurance: Participate in quality improvement initiatives, ensuring that chemotherapy services meet the highest standards of safety and effectiveness.
  10. Ongoing Education: Stay up to date with the latest advancements in chemotherapy and oncology care, and implement best practices in patient care.
Qualifications

Registered Nurse (RN) with an active license in [State].

Certified Oncology Nurse (OCN) or Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Provider Certification preferred.

5+ years of nursing experience with a focus on oncology and chemotherapy administration.

In-depth knowledge of chemotherapy protocols, oncology care, and symptom management.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to educate and support patients and families.

Ability to work independently and manage complex patient care situations.

Compassionate and patient-centered approach to care.

Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) and other healthcare software.
