Job Summary:

As a Nuclear Medicine Technologist at Waterbury Hospital, you will play a critical role in preparing patients and conducting diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine examinations. Your expertise will be essential in ensuring the accuracy and safety of these procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

Update, log, and perform Quality Control surveys for contamination of daily shipments of stock radiopharmaceuticals in accordance with NRC regulations.
Prepare patient doses, identify, verify, and document all radiopharmaceuticals.
Perform Quality Control assessments on camera systems, calibration instruments, and radiopharmaceuticals.
Interview patients, explain procedures, and administer prescribed radiopharmaceuticals following appropriate two identifier process.
Maintain safety standards and records necessary information of usage and disposal of radioactive media in compliance with Nuclear Regulatory requirements.
Maintain accreditation status with ACR.
Place daily order for radiopharmaceuticals.
Perform Cardiac SPECT studies in conjunction with the Cardiology Department and prepare the digital data for review by the radiologist and cardiologist.
Upon completion of patient studies, send images to PACS confirming study with all appropriate labels with associated comments in the RIS System.
Perform cardiac gated computer analysis on digital images.
Complete general, unit, department specific competencies including age specific competencies and dysrhythmia course.
Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements:

Knowledge of Nuclear Medicine tests and procedures.
Ability to interact and effectively communicate with patients, staff, and hospital personnel.
Operating knowledge of Nuclear Medicine equipment, PACS, and RIS.
Ability to make technical decisions to obtain the most accurate information for diagnosis.
Knowledge of bloodborne pathogens and universal precautions.
Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
Ability to lift and pull patients, push stretchers, and able to stand and walk.
Knowledge of radiation protection and cardiac rhythm interpretations.

Graduate of accredited Nuclear Medicine school.
Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist by the NMTCB or ARRT.
