Job Summary:

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides professional nursing care to patients in the Emergency Department at Bayhealth. This role requires specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills to deliver high-quality patient care. The LPN will work collaboratively with the healthcare team to provide exceptional customer service and promote a positive patient experience.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Provide general basic nursing care, including positioning patients, lifting and turning, and assisting with use of bedpans, commodes, urinals, or bathrooms.
2. Obtain and record vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and pulse oximetry.
3. Administer oral medications as ordered by the physician or APC, and review medication history with patients.
4. Assist with minor medical/surgical procedures, including enemas, application of hot and cold compresses, dressing changes, wound cleansing, and splinting of extremities.
5. Collect and record intake and output, and transport patients using wheelchairs or stretchers within offices and to/from vehicles.
6. Identify the need for patient education and advise patients on their treatment plan, and document treatment records for each patient.
7. Maintain patient confidentiality, comply with HIPAA and compliance guidelines, and ensure compliance with Joint Commission regulations and other safety requirements.
8. Perform routine, uncomplicated treatment procedures, including enemas, application of hot and cold compresses, dressing changes, wound cleansing, and splinting of extremities.
9. Participate in ongoing educational activities to acquire and validate knowledge, and maintain current knowledge and competency in nursing care.
10. Interact with and contribute to the professional development of peers and other healthcare providers, and share knowledge, skills, and experience with colleagues and others.

Requirements:

Required: 2 years ED experience as a Tech/LPN, or 2 years of LPN with medication administration experience, or a combination of above.

Preferred: 4 years ED experience as a Tech/LPN, or 4 years of LPN with medication administration experience.

Preferred Education and Credential:

Certification related to the position, if applicable, such as Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support.
