Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate On-Call Residential Life Staff member to join our team at the Washington State School for the Blind. As a key member of our residential life team, you will play a vital role in providing support and guidance to our students with blind and low vision needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide instruction and guidance on independent living skills, including social skills, home management, and hygiene management.
  • Complete daily reports and data tracking sheets to ensure accurate documentation of student progress.
  • Supervise students to ensure their safety and well-being in the residential setting.
  • Create a safe and inclusive learning environment that promotes student growth and development.
  • Implement positive behavior management strategies to support students' emotional and behavioral needs.
  • Plan and participate in leisure activities with students to promote socialization and fun.
  • Perform basic housekeeping tasks to maintain a clean and comfortable living environment.
  • Administer medication as directed by nursing care staff.
Requirements
  • 1-2 years of college with a major emphasis in education, child development, or a related field; or 6 months of experience working with children or blind/low vision individuals; or equivalent education/experience.
  • Valid state ID or driver's license, good driving record, and minimum age of 18.
  • Basic Microsoft Office software skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and respond to difficult situations in a professional manner.
  • Basic Braille competency or ability to obtain within 1 year.
  • First Aid/CPR card and Food Handler's card.
  • Ability to work with students with physical and developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods and walk long distances as necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with blind or low vision individuals.
  • Experience working in an educational environment.
  • Certified Lifeguard.
  • Current and valid CDL.

This position includes additional 5% assignment pay and is eligible for the Employee Assistance Program (EAP). On-Call staff are also eligible to accrue vacation on a pro-rata basis and receive paid holidays and personal time off.
