Position Overview
Under the supervision of the Chief Custodian, the Custodian is responsible for maintaining a safe, healthy, and clean environment within the school facilities. This role involves cleaning, performing minor maintenance tasks, snow removal, and grounds upkeep. The Custodian will adhere to state regulations and district policies to support the effective operation of the educational environment. This is a year-round position.

Key Responsibilities
The following outlines the primary duties associated with this role. This list is not exhaustive, and additional tasks may be assigned as necessary:
  • Note: Night Shift roles are defined as positions starting after 1:00 PM.
  • Note: This position is classified as an Essential Employee role.
  • Note: Flexibility in scheduling is required, as hours may vary.
  • Perform a variety of cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, waxing, buffing, vacuuming, and cleaning various surfaces such as walls, ceilings, windows, and furniture.
  • Conduct minor maintenance tasks, including changing light bulbs, painting, and assisting with the upkeep of heating equipment.
  • Transport vehicles for the purpose of picking up supplies and equipment.
  • Execute other custodial and maintenance duties as directed by supervisory staff.
  • Secure the building at the beginning and end of each shift to ensure safety and cleanliness.
  • Maintain cleanliness in classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and other areas in accordance with district standards.
  • Perform grounds maintenance, including snow removal and lawn care.
  • Assist with deliveries and storage of supplies.
  • Manage waste disposal and participate in recycling initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Valid Class D Driver's License with a clean driving record.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
  • Ability to perform minor maintenance tasks.
  • Capability to follow both oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff and the public.
  • Good physical health and strength to perform cleaning and lifting tasks.
Physical Requirements
The role requires effective communication skills, the ability to convey instructions clearly, and the capability to perform tasks requiring moderate physical effort, including lifting objects weighing 40-50 pounds and standing for extended periods.

Environmental Conditions
Work is typically conducted in a school environment.
