Job Summary

The Wildlife Damage Management Technician plays a crucial role in conducting wildlife damage management services and activities using a range of tools and equipment. This position requires strong communication skills, a service-oriented mindset, and the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain relationships with landowners, ranchers, and administrators to provide wildlife damage management services on private lands. This may involve coordinating with adjacent landowners or residents to ensure effective communication and cooperation.
  • Utilize a variety of control devices, chemicals, tools, firearms, and related equipment to manage wildlife and avian damage. Prepare baits and lures, set control devices, and maintain records in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Perform routine tasks and operations, including maintenance, repair, and safekeeping of tools, supplies, and equipment. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Participate in aerial hunting activities as authorized by cooperative agreements and in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Maintain regular contact with the District Supervisor to report wildlife damage management activities and provide updates on progress.
  • Use GPS technology to identify the location of set traps, snares, and M-44s. Demonstrate a commitment to safety in all operations, including the use of motor vehicles, firearms, control devices, and toxicants.
  • Prepare routine and basic records of daily activities, observations, field conditions, or contacts made for purposes of exchanging factual information. Submit management information system (MIS) documents weekly or as required.
Qualifications
  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • Farm or ranch background.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Computer competencies required.
  • Strong service ethic and ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Effective communication skills.
Other Requirements
  • Travel may be required for official duties, including attendance at night and/or weekend meetings, participation in out-of-county events.
  • Must have access to a personal vehicle and maintain a valid driver's license and liability insurance.
  • Must be willing to work necessary hours to fulfill job responsibilities, including some evenings and weekends.
  • Must reside in the assigned county (note: urban counties exempt from this requirement).
