Job Summary:

HDR is seeking a highly skilled Geotechnical Engineer to provide engineering services to the power industry. The successful candidate will perform analysis, design, and construction of modifications for large dams and other power infrastructure in the southeastern United States.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and oversee geotechnical field investigation and laboratory testing programs.
  • Prepare geotechnical analysis and design calculations and reports.
  • Review and evaluate dam safety instrumentation data.
  • Perform finite element modeling of dams.
  • Prepare design drawings and construction specifications.
  • Participate in dam safety inspections.
  • Conduct construction observation and documentation.

Requirements:
  • A Master's Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related field, and 3 years' experience in geotechnical engineering, or a Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related field, and 5 years' experience in geotechnical engineering.
  • Experience in planning, performing, and documenting subsurface explorations.
  • Reviewing and interpreting field and laboratory testing results.
  • Reading, reviewing, and interpreting geotechnical instrumentation.
  • Performing geotechnical calculations and preparing calculation documentation packages.
  • Development of engineering recommendations and writing geotechnical reports.
  • Using slope stability analysis software such as GeoStudio.
  • GIS applications.
  • AutoCAD.
  • gINT.
  • MathCAD.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Engineer-in-Training certification or have passed Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination (any US jurisdiction).
  • Occasional overnight travel for field work at project sites in the Southeastern United States.
