Dietary Department Director

Big Horn Rehabilitation and Care Center seeks a highly skilled and experienced Dietary Department Director to oversee the planning, organization, and direction of the facility's dietary department. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the provision of quality food service and nutritional care to residents, while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Key Responsibilities- Recruit, select, train, supervise, and retain a sufficient number of qualified staff to carry out the responsibilities of the dietary department.
- Supervise the preparation and service of planned menus, nourishments, and supplements, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures, as well as state and federal guidelines.
- Ensure that food is received, stored, prepared, held, and served in accordance with company policies and procedures, as well as state and federal guidelines.
- Implement and maintain sanitation policies and regulations, ensuring that staff adheres to these standards.
- Schedule and conduct routine in-services for staff, promoting ongoing education and training.
- Purchase dietary food and supplies within assigned budgets, utilizing company-approved distribution sources and vendors.
- Ensure adherence to quality assurance processes, auditing the dietary areas and practices for compliance with current regulations and policies, and reporting to the QAPI committee.
- Complete clinical duties and documentation accurately and timely, as assigned, with oversight from a Registered Dietitian, and in accordance with individual state licensure laws.
- Assist with nutritional education for residents, patients, families, and caregivers, promoting healthy eating habits and nutrition awareness.
- Participate in various meetings and committees as appointed by the Administrator, evaluating and implementing recommendations from the facility's committees.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Successful completion of a course approved by the Dietary Manager's Association, or possession of a minimum of individual state regulation requirements for a Dietary Manager position.
- One (1) year food service supervisory experience in a healthcare setting, focusing on food management, diet therapy, and cost control, preferred.
- May be filled by a Registered Dietitian or Dietetic Technician.
- Ability to express self adequately in written and oral communication, and to communicate effectively with supervisor and staff members.
- Ability to analyze data, reports, clinical documentation, and problems, and develop workable solutions and goals.
- Ability to interpret and implement written or oral programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the Dietary Department.
The Dietary Department Director will work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent interruptions and exposure to hot/cold temperatures in kitchen/storage areas. The position requires the ability to bend, stoop, lift, walk, and stand intermittently throughout the workday, and may occasionally lift or move items of up to 50 pounds. The successful candidate must possess senses (taste, smell, sight, and hearing), or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately, so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
