Job Description / Essential Elements:

Custodian I Job Purpose Statement:

The Custodian I is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and attractive school facility, providing adequate arrangements for meetings, classroom activities, and events, and minimizing property damage, loss, and liability exposure.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Arrange furnishings and equipment to provide adequate preparations for meetings, activities, and events.
  • Clean school facilities, including classrooms, offices, multipurpose rooms, and grounds, to maintain a sanitary, safe, and attractive environment.
  • Deliver various items, such as supplies, mail, packages, and furniture, to distribute materials to the appropriate parties.
  • Advise students, site personnel, and facility users on activities, safety, and proper maintenance of facilities.
  • Secure facilities and grounds to minimize property damage, loss, and liability and ensure safety at the work site.
Other Job Functions:
  • Repair furniture and equipment to ensure items are available and in safe working condition.
  • Request equipment and supplies to maintain inventory and ensure availability of items as needed to properly maintain facilities.
  • Participate in various activities, such as meetings, training, and other events, to receive and convey information.
Essential Job Requirements - Qualifications:

Abilities and Skills Required:

The ideal candidate will possess skills to use cleaning agents and equipment, communicate effectively, establish and maintain effective working relationships, and perform basic reading and math required for safe and accurate use of cleaning agents and equipment.

Knowledge and Abilities:

The candidate should have knowledge of methods and use of cleaning materials, equipment, and supplies, as well as safe work practices.

Physical Abilities:

The candidate should be able to stand for prolonged periods, follow oral and written instructions, write to keep work records and reports, use basic math to estimate time and materials, adhere to safe work practices, work independently with minimal supervision, perform a variety of tasks, adjust to flexible assignments, make decisions and improvise as required, and maintain cooperative working relationships.

Significant Physical Abilities:

The candidate should be able to lift, carry, push, pull, stoop, reach, handle, have near and far visual acuity, and depth perception.

Testing Required:

Validations:

The candidate must have a valid driver's license, DMV (H-6) printout, criminal justice fingerprint clearance, health physical examination, and tuberculosis testing/clearance.

Requirements / Qualifications:

Previous custodial experience is preferred.

This posting is for substitute (on-call) custodian positions only. Permanent custodial positions will be posted separately.

Substitute positions may be part-time or full-time, with morning, afternoon, or evening shifts depending on site need.

This is an application pool, and there may or may not be openings available at the time of posting.

Once positions become available, administrators at the Maintenance and Operations Department will screen applications from this application pool for their substitute custodian positions.
