Job Summary

Batelle is seeking a highly skilled Marine and Oceanography Environmental Scientist to join our team in Norwell, MA.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in physical field sampling activities throughout the United States.
  • Conduct environmental field activities to investigate contamination in soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, soil gas, and air.
  • Identify and acquire materials, equipment, and resources to implement field scope of work at project sites.
  • Communicate and coordinate field activities with field teams, project managers, and client representatives.
  • Maintain accountability for on-site activities, including staff health and safety, field records, sample custody, and safety observations.
  • Collect, record, and manage field and sample data, following data quality requirements.
  • Work overtime, extended hours, and off-shifts in a field environment as project needs arise.
  • Travel for extended periods, primarily in the summer and fall, but could occur during any season.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Engineering, Geology, or a related field.
  • Experience working in challenging environmental and physical conditions.
  • Experience working on boats in inland and offshore waters.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems with equipment in the field.
  • Ability to obtain 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER and 8-hour annual refresher certification.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct and manage remediation contractors.
  • Experience with soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, indoor air, and soil-gas contamination investigation and remediation projects.
  • Training in USACE Construction Quality Management and 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification.
