POSITION SUMMARY


The primary objective of this role is to deliver direct nursing care to residents while overseeing the daily nursing operations conducted by nursing assistants. This is in accordance with the prevailing regulations and guidelines governing long-term care facilities, as directed by the Director of Nursing Services or Nurse Supervisor, ensuring the highest standard of care is consistently upheld.


AUTHORITY AND RESPONSIBILITY
Charge Nurses are entrusted with the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability essential for executing their designated duties.

KEY FUNCTIONS

RESPONSIBILITIES
§ Deliver direct nursing care in compliance with current regulations and guidelines to ensure the highest possible level of resident functionality.

§ Manage the admission, transfer, and discharge processes of residents following established protocols.

§ Document and transcribe physician orders accurately on the appropriate records.

§ Prepare and administer medications as prescribed by physicians.

§ Provide additional professional services such as catheterization, tube feeding, suctioning, and vital sign monitoring.

§ Order necessary medications, supplies, and equipment in line with established policies.

§ Engage in the development, implementation, and assessment of patient-centered care plans.

§ Inform the attending physician and relevant parties of any changes in resident conditions or incidents.

§ Accompany physicians during rounds as needed.

§ Arrange for diagnostic and therapeutic services as per physician orders.

§ Educate residents and their representatives regarding care procedures.

§ Collaborate with other services to maintain a comprehensive care regimen for residents.

§ Supervise and guide the daily activities of nursing assistants in accordance with current regulations.

§ Participate in the infection prevention and control program, including antibiotic stewardship initiatives.

§ Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of assigned work areas.

§ Document nursing notes reflecting resident conditions and responses to care.

§ Report any issues to the Nurse Supervisor or Director of Nursing Services.

§ Assist in orienting new charge nurses to their roles and responsibilities.

§ Communicate staffing needs to the Nurse Supervisor or Director of Nursing Services when necessary.

§ Attend ongoing education programs to stay updated with professional changes and maintain licensure.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
§ Graduate from an accredited nursing program.

§ Hold a current, unencumbered nursing license as a Licensed Vocational Nurse or Registered Nurse in this state.

§ Possess a valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS

Physical and sensory requirements for this position include: walking, reaching, bending, lifting, fine motor coordination, pushing and pulling, effective communication with residents, ability to distinguish various sensory inputs, and maintaining composure in emergency situations while managing multiple tasks.


EXPERIENCE
No prior experience is required. New graduates from accredited nursing programs with valid nursing licenses are welcome. On-the-job training will be provided.
