POSITION OBJECTIVE


The primary objective of this role is to deliver direct nursing care to residents while overseeing the daily nursing operations conducted by nursing assistants. This is in accordance with the existing regulations and guidelines governing long-term care facilities, and as directed by the Director of Nursing Services or Nurse Supervisor, ensuring the highest standard of quality care is upheld at all times.


AUTHORITY DELEGATION
Charge Nurses are entrusted with the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for executing their assigned duties.

KEY FUNCTIONS

RESPONSIBILITIES
§ Deliver direct nursing care in compliance with current regulations and guidelines that govern long-term care facilities and patient-centered care plans to achieve and maintain the highest possible level of resident functioning.

§ Manage the admission, transfer, and discharge processes of residents following established protocols.

§ Document and transcribe physician orders accurately on the appropriate forms.

§ Prepare and administer medications as prescribed by the physician.

§ Provide additional professional services such as catheterization, tube feeding, suctioning, dressing changes, vital sign monitoring, and care for deceased residents.

§ Order necessary medications, supplies, and equipment in line with established policies.

§ Engage in the development, implementation, and assessment of patient-centered care plans.

§ Inform the attending physician and the resident's representative of any changes in the resident's condition or involvement in incidents.

§ Accompany physicians on rounds as needed.

§ Arrange for diagnostic and therapeutic services as per physician orders.

§ Offer education and training to residents and their representatives or caregivers.

§ Collaborate with other resident services to ensure comprehensive care is maintained.

§ Supervise and guide the daily activities of nursing assistants in accordance with relevant regulations.

§ Participate in the development and maintenance of infection prevention and control programs.

§ Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of assigned work areas.

§ Document nursing notes reflecting the resident's condition and care provided.

§ Report any issues to the Nurse Supervisor or Director of Nursing Services.

§ Assist in orienting new charge nurses to their roles and responsibilities.

§ Notify the Nurse Supervisor or Director of Nursing Services regarding staffing needs.

§ Attend continuing education programs to stay updated with professional changes and maintain licensure.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
§ Must be a graduate from an accredited nursing program.

§ Must hold a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Licensed Vocational Nurse or Registered Nurse in this state.

§ Must possess a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS

The physical and sensory demands of this position include: walking, reaching, bending, lifting, fine motor coordination, pushing and pulling, effective communication with residents, ability to distinguish smells and temperatures, reading and writing capabilities, and maintaining composure in emergency situations while managing multiple tasks.


EXPERIENCE
No prior experience is required. New graduates from accredited nursing programs with a valid nursing license are welcome. On-the-job training will be provided.
