Job Summary:

The Patient Care Technician or Behavioral Health Technician Resource Pool is a critical member of our healthcare team, providing clinical support to patients and families in a fast-paced environment. As a Resource Pool Technician, you will have the opportunity to work in various settings, including patient care units, behavioral health units, and other areas of the hospital.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide basic patient care, including toileting, bathing, linen and clothing changes, fresh water and ice, ambulating, comfort measures, and other patient needs.
  • Assist with admission, discharge, and transfer of patients.
  • Provide excellent customer service when responding to patient and family requests.
  • Report and record patient care findings and data in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to provide comprehensive patient care.
  • Perform non-nursing duties as delegated, including cleaning, stocking, answering phones, and clerical support.
  • Implement the plan of care as delegated.
  • Foster a safe environment by complying with safety policies and taking appropriate action in an emergency.

Behavioral Health Technician Responsibilities:

  • Maintain patient safety by constantly surveilling assigned areas, performing visual safety rounds as ordered, and conducting room checks.
  • Provide a safe, consistent, and supportive environment by following established interventions and treatment plans to meet patient care needs.
  • Work collaboratively with the team to ensure patient safety, appropriate management of individual patient behavior, and overall milieu management.
  • Provide direct observation of acutely unsafe patients in collaboration with the treatment team and charge nurse.
  • Anticipate and diffuse patient behaviors that have the likelihood to lead to out of control behaviors.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the treatment team to ensure seamless care.

Requirements:

  • Current CNA certification (or completion of nursing assistant training program and BLS certification).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Ability to lift and move patients, as well as push/pull gurneys and portable equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CNA experience or applicable healthcare experience.
  • Current enrollment in nursing school.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Post-high school education in social work, psychology, sociology, family studies, or a health sciences field.
  • Experience working with behavioral health and/or chemically dependent patients.
  • Experience providing behavioral healthcare services to child/adolescent patient populations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients.
