Job Title: Transportation Systems Planning Director

We are seeking a highly skilled Transportation Systems Planning Director to join our team at the Minnesota Department of Transportation. As a key member of our planning team, you will be responsible for developing, directing, and managing multimodal transportation plans, studies, research activities, and investment planning for the Long-Range Planning unit in the Metro District Office of Planning, Program Management and Transit.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement transportation plans and studies that meet the needs of our stakeholders and communities.
  • Lead and manage a team of planners and engineers to ensure the successful delivery of transportation projects.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify and address transportation needs and opportunities.
  • Develop and manage budgets and resources to ensure the effective delivery of transportation projects.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest transportation trends, technologies, and best practices to ensure our planning and delivery processes are innovative and effective.
Requirements:
  • Three (3) years of advanced professional planning experience that involves federal, state, regional, and/or project level planning.
  • Experience designing and/or carrying out planning studies, especially for transportation.
  • Experience facilitating meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience participating in planning activities involving agencies and stakeholders, such as cities, counties, metropolitan planning organizations, area transportation partnerships, state departments of transportation or other state agencies, tribal governments and/or others.
  • Experience communicating information verbally and in writing to a variety of audiences.
