The National Arts Club, a distinguished not-for-profit organization, is in search of a skilled pastry cook to enhance our culinary team. The Club boasts a vibrant membership of approximately 1950 individuals, including many of New York's most creative and artistic personalities. Our historic Clubhouse provides an exquisite setting for fine dining and cultural events, featuring a beautifully appointed dining room, art galleries, and a diverse calendar of events.
The Pastry Cook plays a vital role within a collaborative team environment, acting as a liaison among various food and beverage personnel, including cooks, pastry chefs, dishwashers, servers, and managers. This position is responsible for the production of pastries for the restaurant, banquet events, and other Club functions. Additionally, the Pastry Cook assists with general food production tasks and ensures that quality, sanitation, and cost standards are consistently met.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong work ethic and a commitment to maintaining high culinary standards. Proficiency in crafting exceptional desserts while upholding an organized and professional kitchen environment is essential. Candidates must possess the following qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Degree or certificate from an accredited pastry program preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in pastry production
- NYC Food Handler's License preferred
SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Extensive knowledge of pastry and baking techniques, including methods, ingredients, and industry best practices
- Strong decision-making, time-management, and organizational skills with a keen attention to detail
- Ability to effectively multitask and delegate in a fast-paced kitchen environment
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Prepare pastries and desserts as directed by the Pastry Chef
- Conduct daily inventory of all prepared items
- Store and maintain products in accordance with proper food handling practices
- Maintain accurate daily par levels for all prepared desserts
- Communicate effectively with the Pastry Chef throughout the day
- Contribute to the development of new seasonal menu ideas
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of the pastry station and storage areas
- Assist in other kitchen areas as required
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and communicate for extended periods. Frequent handling and reaching with hands and arms are necessary. The role may occasionally require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, or crouching. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
- Due to the nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to meet the Club's business needs, including weekdays, weekends, holidays, and early or late shifts.
