Job Overview

Position Title: Child Welfare Assistant

This role is integral to the operations of Oklahoma Human Services.

Annual Compensation:

  • Level I H16A - $29, Comprehensive State Employee Benefits

Essential Qualifications

Child Welfare Assistant I:

  • Requires six months of experience in general office clerical work, child care in a licensed facility, sales, or public interaction.
  • Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education and experience, which may include six months of vocational training or 15 semester hours from an accredited institution.

Child Welfare Assistant II:

  • Requires one year of clerical experience in a governmental or non-profit social services setting.
  • Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education and experience, which may include thirty semester hours of college coursework.

Child Welfare Assistant III:

  • Requires one year of clerical experience in a governmental or non-profit social services setting, plus two additional years of clerical experience in child welfare.
  • Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education and experience, which may include thirty semester hours of college coursework.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide foundational case management assistance and support for Child Welfare Specialists (CWS), clients, and their families.
  • Perform administrative tasks, including general office duties, case documentation input, and data compilation.
  • Inform clients about available child welfare services and resources, providing specific program details and referrals to community resources.
  • Engage in a variety of paraprofessional tasks related to Child Welfare case management, assisting CWS and clients.
  • Coordinate appointments for medical visits, family interactions, court appearances, and transportation for children and clients.
  • Facilitate referrals to other programs, service providers, and the courts; assist in problem resolution and conduct home visits as needed.
  • Interview clients and families, reporting findings that may influence medical, financial, tribal, and psychiatric care plans to assigned CWS.
  • Support CWS in case management during client meetings, coordinating services such as daycare or medical care, and liaising with law enforcement and courts.
  • Advocate for clients in obtaining necessary services, maintaining communication among clients, providers, and families, and assisting in achieving individualized service plans.
