Job Summary

This is a part-time, non-benefited, FLSA exempt position in the Basic Science Division that reports to the Dean of Education.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teaching and Instruction
    • Prepare lesson plans for classroom instruction for specified courses.
    • Deliver effective individualized programs of instruction to class members.
    • Ensure adherence to technical college and safety requirements in classrooms and labs by following established procedures.
    • Correctly assess the educational needs and class progress of students.
    • Select and obtain appropriate educational materials for courses.
    • Prepare reports on the current status of students in the program indicating whether performance is aligned with performance indicators, program goals and progress schedule.
    • Ensure consistency in syllabi, lesson plans, tests, and other appropriate materials.
  • Course Development and Evaluation
    • Develop program and course outlines, goals and objectives.
    • Prepare appropriate curricula, including non-traditional content and methods to achieve objectives and goals of students.
    • Follow designated and approved lesson plan(s) using appropriate techniques and aids.
    • Evaluate students' progress in attaining goals and objectives.
    • Establish criteria and tests the students in order to measure each student's progress.
    • Communicate students' progress to student and appropriate personnel and according to established guidelines.
    • Accurately record pertinent information in students' records as required.
  • Classroom Management and Safety
    • Request and maintain supplies and equipment as needed for instruction.
    • Perform and maintain classroom inventory according to established policies and procedures.
    • Maintain an organized and proper supply of classroom instructional materials.
    • Promptly notify supervisor of defective equipment and need for supplies.
    • Ensure safety and security requirements are met in the training area.
    • Ensure students are instructed in and follow all safety rules for operating equipment and using tools.
    • Ensure classrooms and work areas are properly cleaned and maintained at all times.
    • Ensure work-related projects are successfully completed and that they meet industrial standards.
  • Student Support and Services
    • Meet with students, staff members, and other educators to discuss students' instructional programs and other issues impacting the progress of the students.
    • Advise students on course selection and other pertinent matters in a professional and effective manner.
    • Actively participate in staff and faculty meetings as needed to discuss students' progress, problems, and/or programs.
    • Serve as academic advisor to students in the program area.
  • Professional Development
    • Display a high level of effort and commitment to performing work; operate effectively within the organizational structure; demonstrate trustworthiness and responsible behavior.
    • Demonstrate eagerness to learn and assume responsibility; seek out and accept increased responsibility; display a 'can do' approach to work.
    • Show persistence and seek alternatives when obstacles arise; seek alternative solutions; do things before being asked or forced to by events.
    • Work within the system in a resourceful manner to accomplish reasonable work goals; show flexibility in response to process change and adapt to and accommodate new methods and procedures.
    • Accept direction and feedback from supervisor and follow through appropriately.
    • Work when scheduled; begin and end work as expected; call in according to policy when arriving late for work or when absent; observe provisions of Fair Labor Standards Act; observe policies on break and lunch periods; use work time appropriately.
  • Other Duties
    • Perform other duties as assigned in the fulfillment of the needs, philosophy, and purpose of Gwinnett Technical College.
