Job Summary

Science Systems and Applications Inc, a leading provider of innovative solutions, is seeking a highly skilled Facility and Maintenance Specialist to join our team at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our labs and clean rooms, performing preventative and corrective maintenance on a wide range of semiconductor equipment and supporting facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform Preventative Maintenance Tasks: Regularly inspect and maintain equipment to prevent downtime and ensure optimal performance.
  • Support Daily Operations: Collaborate with the maintenance and fabrication team to meet tool availability and quality objectives.
  • Ensure Safety and Compliance: Maintain safety training and ensure a safe and clean work environment, adhering to all relevant regulations and standards.
  • Provide Technical Support: Offer technical assistance for lab tools and infrastructure, troubleshooting and resolving issues as needed.
  • Track and Communicate Activities: Effectively communicate activities and issues throughout the day, ensuring seamless collaboration with the team.
  • Install Lab Tool Infrastructure: Install lab tool infrastructure to manufacturer requirements, ensuring accurate and efficient setup.
  • Read and Interpret Schematics: Read and interpret electrical schematics, line diagrams, and manufacturer manuals to troubleshoot and repair equipment.
  • Perform Repair and Maintenance: Perform repair and maintenance of HVAC systems, DI water systems, plumbing, electronic and pneumatic controls, laboratory processing tools, and vacuum systems.
  • Work Safely and Effectively: Comfortably work around electrical power, chemicals, pressurized gases, pressure vessels, and rotating assemblies, wearing and maintaining proper PPE.
  • Manage Inventory and Waste: Track and communicate a critical inventory, specifically for chemicals, and maintain a chemical waste stream.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: A.S. degree in an engineering field (electrical, mechanical, or industrial technology) and 2 or more years' experience in a maintenance role in process automation or experience in one or more of the following industries: semiconductor or material processing facility, fabrication or packaging and test facility, or high-volume manufacturing facility.
  • Trade Experience: 2 to 4 years of experience in two or more of the following trades: HVAC service/installation, automation or infrastructure-related controls, plumbing service/installation, electrical service/installation.
  • Skills and Abilities: Must be able to lift 50 lbs, have experience with MS Office programs (including Office Suite and Teams), and have hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment. Permanent resident (green card holder) or US citizen required.
  • Desired Qualifications: Excellent oral and written communications skills, good interpersonal skills, and ability to work in a team environment. Excellent problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills, positive attitude, and self-motivation. Experience with AutoCAD or Solid Works (or other CAD system) and machine shop experience are assets.
Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to touch, handle or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee frequently is required to talk and hear and occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
