Position Description

The International Vehicle Standards (IVS) division spearheads the Department's initiatives in formulating policies and technical regulations aimed at creating cleaner, quieter, and safer road vehicles, ranging from e-scooters and bicycles to heavy-duty trucks, tractors, and off-road machinery. Our team comprises specialists in environmental performance, automation, vehicle security (including cybersecurity), as well as active and passive safety, and vehicle approval.

Our team's responsibilities encompass a broad spectrum of topics, including pollutant emissions, vehicle noise, and fuel efficiency standards. We are also exploring innovative areas such as emissions from non-exhaust sources (like brakes and tires) and battery standards for electric vehicles.

This position presents an exceptional opportunity to enhance your skills and career while applying your expertise and innovative thinking to shape future environmental standards for vehicles, working alongside a dedicated group of scientists, engineers, and policymakers. Within the team, you will contribute to the development of new technical standards to ensure that future vehicles are the most environmentally friendly, minimizing their impact on air quality, public health, and the ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting in the formulation and implementation of policies for road vehicle standards, providing guidance to DfT Ministers, senior personnel, and across Government.
  • Supporting strategic initiatives and research projects to inform policy decisions and facilitate the necessary innovations and enhancements for vehicles, both in the UK and internationally.
  • Representing the team at international meetings and conferences, including those organized by the United Nations, while fostering relationships and collaborations with our global counterparts.
  • Delivering technical expertise within the IVS division and across the DfT for various projects and inquiries, demonstrating flexibility across different areas as needed.

Additional Information:
