Job Summary

As a Respiratory Therapist PRN at Frye Regional Medical Center, you will be responsible for assessing, treating, and caring for patients with breathing disorders. You will assume primary responsibility for all respiratory care modalities, including the supervision of respiratory therapy students. Your duties will include initiating and conducting therapeutic procedures, maintaining patient records, and selecting, assembling, checking, and operating equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Measure lung capacity and analyze blood samples using a blood gas analyzer.
  • Deliver and assess response to ordered therapy per plan of care. Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate.
  • Evaluate respiratory care policies and procedures based on patient outcomes, current research, and best practices.
  • Respond to codes and calls for emergent assistance. Assess patient condition and deliver appropriate treatment.
  • Educate the patient and family about the patient's illness and provide information about community support groups and other resources.
  • Monitor, receive, stock, and distribute respiratory care supplies and medical gas cylinders.
  • Maintain storage areas with required supply levels and equipment.
  • Disassemble, clean, and sterilize equipment, and perform preventative maintenance and calibration of machines.
  • Function fully in neonatal settings.
Requirements
  • Associate's Degree (or equivalent technician program) in Respiratory Care required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Care preferred.
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) (within 3 months of date of hire or transfer), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) (within 3 months of date of hire or transfer), NRP (within 3 months of date of hire or transfer), and current North Carolina Respiratory Care Practitioner license (RCP).
  • Minimum 3 years experience as a RRT preferred.
