Position Overview

UPMC introduces a new Monthly Loan Repayment Program for December 2023 graduates, offering $9,000 in loan repayment distributed over three years (Eligible flex/full-time roles to receive prorated amount of $6,300)


UPMC Presbyterian is looking for an MRI Technologist/Advanced MRI Technologist to fill a vital role in our organization. Our department provides various shift options: 3 shifts of 13 hours during Day/Evening/Night from 6:30 am - 8 pm or 5:30 pm - 7 am, as well as 10-hour night shifts from 8 pm - 6:30 am, including rotating weekend and holiday duties with occasional float assignments.
Starting salary for MRI Technologist: $30.27/hour.
Starting salary for Advanced MRI Technologist: $32.39/hour.
Final candidates will be assigned a job title within the career progression based on education, experience, and managerial discretion at the time of the offer.
Responsibilities of MRI Technologist:
  • Maintains clinical proficiency for all examinations and equipment.
  • Correctly identifies all patients using two identifiers and follows universal protocols during procedures.
  • Reviews patient history and evaluates physician orders, applying specific departmental protocols for optimal data acquisition, including contrast preparation and administration.
  • Documents patient history in the electronic record as necessary.
  • Prior to commencing exams, reviews and presents all relevant information to the physician according to protocol.
  • Ensures all exams within their responsibility are accurately coded and tracked through the RIS system, properly archived and interpreted in ISITE, and all charges are entered for the exams conducted.
  • Adheres to and promotes MR safety within the department.
  • Conducts weekly ACR Phantom testing.

Responsibilities of Advanced MRI Technologist:

  • Performs or assists Clinical Specialist with QA, regulatory testing, and other technical and research initiatives.
  • Demonstrates full operation of specialized equipment, promptly analyzes data, and completes quality control tasks.
  • Assists in training staff and students.
  • Exhibits the ability to operate independently, covering shifts, on-call duties, and providing services at satellite facilities, while maintaining communication with the lead and management team.
  • Responds promptly to medical editing requests.
  • Engages in standardization efforts with system-level workgroups.

Requirements for MRI Technologist:

  • Graduate of an ARRT accredited Radiologic Technology program or completion of an accredited CNMT, ARMRIT, or ARDMS program.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Must obtain MR registry within 18 months of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required.
  • CPR certification must comply with AHA standards, including both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
  • ARRT Certificate or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist (ARMRIT) or Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification (NMTC) or Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS).
  • Act 34 clearance.
Requirements for Advanced MRI Technologist:
  • Completion of formal training in an MRI-related program accredited by ARRT or ARMRIT.
  • Minimum of 2 years of MRI experience required.
  • Must have received a performance review rating of strong/solid/good on the most recent performance evaluation to qualify for promotion.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • ARRT MR Certified or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist (ARMRIT).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
  • CPR certification must comply with AHA standards, including both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
  • ARRT Certificate.
  • Act 34 clearance.
