Job Overview

The Safety and Security Specialist is responsible for ensuring a secure and safe environment for patients, visitors, staff, and property within the organization. Given the role's extensive public interaction, exceptional customer service skills are crucial. The Specialist conducts regular patrols of the facility, responds to and investigates security incidents, identifies safety hazards, and meticulously documents actions and observations throughout their shift.

In response to alarms and emergency codes, the Specialist provides traffic control and assists with safe patient handling. Routine safety inspections of the premises are conducted, and any concerns identified are reported for remedial action. The role often involves engaging in high-pressure situations, which may require the use of physical force to ensure the safety of the healthcare environment. Additionally, the Specialist may need to perform physical tasks such as running, climbing stairs, or carrying individuals in urgent situations.

The Specialist will also offer guidance to clinical staff regarding patient release and restraint matters. Engaging in various customer service activities, the Specialist assists patients and visitors by providing directions and helping them navigate the facility. Regular use of computers is required for writing reports, maintaining logs, and monitoring security systems. Flexibility to work across multiple locations may be necessary based on staffing requirements.

Essential Qualifications:
  • Completion of TASER training and certification within six months of hire (annual re-certification required)
  • Experience and/or training in customer service
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate's Degree
  • One year of relevant civilian or military security/law enforcement experience
  • Experience in healthcare security
