This position is essential for overseeing and guiding automotive technicians and service personnel while executing advanced tasks in diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing a variety of vehicles including trucks, heavy machinery, automobiles, agricultural equipment, motorcycles, and emergency response vehicles. The role also involves assisting the superintendent in the comprehensive management and oversight of the maintenance division. Key responsibilities include: supervising technicians in diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing large trucks, off-road machinery, cars, light trucks, motorcycles, and emergency vehicles; performing repair work on light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles; liaising with parts department staff, external businesses, and other departmental supervisors; conducting miscellaneous tasks; troubleshooting and repairing electrical systems across various vehicle makes and models; addressing hydraulic system repairs on heavy machinery; and diagnosing and fixing brake systems. Incumbents will handle more complex repairs as required and report directly to the Garage Superintendent.Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must possess a minimum of five years of recent experience as a mechanic specializing in automotive, diesel engines, heavy machinery, or emergency vehicles at a journeyman level. This experience should include at least two years of apprenticeship under a qualified mechanic and a minimum of one year of independent work as a lead mechanic. Proficiency in utilizing computer diagnostic tools on vehicles, diesel engines, heavy machinery, or emergency vehicles is also required. Preference may be granted to individuals holding current Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications or those with prior supervisory experience in a technical environment.Special Requirements
Candidates must be prepared to respond after standard working hours, work varying shifts, and be available on-call 24/7 during emergencies or as needed. A valid Alabama Driver's License and an insurable driving record are mandatory. Candidates must also be willing to obtain an Alabama Commercial Driver's License (CDL) if required. Attendance at specialized training sessions outside the local area may be necessary to enhance or maintain skills.Kind of Examination
