Job Description:

As a member of the custodial team, you will be responsible for upholding cleanliness and hygiene standards across the University and its grounds. Your role will involve working in various facilities, adapting to a range of operational needs.

Key Responsibilities:


30%- Execute cleaning tasks, manual labor, and other essential activities to ensure the smooth operation of the campus. This includes maintaining offices, classrooms, laboratories, residence hall lobbies, restrooms, stairwells, elevators, hallways, and other designated areas.

Duties encompass sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, scrubbing, dusting, and polishing surfaces. You will prepare cleaning solutions to the appropriate concentrations.

30%- Manage waste disposal by emptying trash and recycling bins, transporting waste materials to designated outdoor containers.

Handling hazardous materials may be required, including the transportation of bio-hazardous waste for proper disposal.

You will assess materials visually to determine their suitability for recycling based on established guidelines. Cleaning and sanitizing waste containers will also be part of your responsibilities.


10%- Conduct floor maintenance and specialized cleaning tasks, including cleaning, stripping, waxing, and polishing floors, as well as carpet cleaning using industrial-grade equipment.

This includes stain removal from carpets and resilient flooring. You will operate various cleaning machines as needed for effective cleaning and maintenance.


10%- Rearrange office furniture, fixtures, and lab equipment, as well as set up tables, chairs, partitions, and other equipment for special events.

10%- Clean building exteriors, windows, walls, fixtures, steps, and sidewalks using power washers and other commercial cleaning equipment.

You will also perform maintenance checks on service-related equipment.

5%- Secure campus buildings, labs, and offices using assigned keys, ensuring the security of all keys issued during your shift.

5%- Perform a variety of additional tasks as needed, including maintaining and cleaning equipment used in your duties, wearing safety gear as required, reporting maintenance or safety hazards, and notifying supervisors of the need for supplies.

Carry out other duties as necessary to maintain cleanliness and hygiene across the University, ensuring the efficient and safe operation of the department.

Minimum Qualifications:

Six months of experience in custodial, housekeeping, groundskeeping, or food service roles.

Special or Physical Qualifications:


This position is considered essential and may require reporting to campus during emergencies or closures.

You must possess the physical ability to perform manual tasks, including walking, ascending and descending stairs multiple times daily, and standing for extended periods.

Capability to move objects weighing at least 20 lbs and transport cleaning carts and equipment is necessary.

A pre-employment physical examination will be required due to the physical demands of the position.
