Position Summary:

Under general supervision, the Senior Phlebotomist will execute a variety of laboratory responsibilities, including specimen collection, performing waived and moderate testing (including microscopy), and conducting EKGs. A solid background in phlebotomy, laboratory protocols, and patient interaction is essential. This role demands exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational capabilities. The Senior Phlebotomist will operate both independently and collaboratively to ensure the provision of high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Specimen Collection: Efficiently collect blood specimens from patients using venipuncture and capillary techniques. Maintain a clean and safe work environment, process specimens for testing, and address any issues related to specimen collection and testing.
  • Laboratory Testing: Conduct both waived and moderate complexity laboratory tests, including microscopy. Maintain accurate records of patient data and test results, and participate in quality control activities to ensure the reliability of test outcomes.
  • Patient Interaction: Engage with patients and healthcare professionals in a professional and empathetic manner. Efficiently resolve issues and maintain competent communication skills.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited Phlebotomy Certificate program.
  • Documented training compliant with CLIA regulations.
  • Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist (MA-Pbt) certification to perform blood withdrawal procedures under supervision.
  • BLS certification required or to be obtained within the first month of employment.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects, occasionally up to 50 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Over 2 years of experience in blood collection.

The hourly wage for this position ranges based on various factors including local labor markets, education, and experience. UnitedHealth Group adheres to all applicable minimum wage laws.
