Job Title: Assistant Softball Coach

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Assistant Softball Coach to join our team at Lovington Municipal School District. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the Head Coach in establishing and maintaining a competitive softball program, while promoting a positive and supportive team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Head Coach in developing and implementing a comprehensive softball program, including practice plans, game strategies, and player development.
  • Coach individual players in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in softball, including batting, pitching, and fielding.
  • Plan and schedule regular practice sessions, including team meetings and individual player development sessions.
  • Monitor and enforce all rules and regulations, including those related to eligibility, safety, and sportsmanship.
  • Recommend equipment, supplies, and uniforms to the Head Coach or Athletic Director.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records, proof of insurance, physical records, and other necessary paperwork.
  • Oversee the safety and condition of the softball facility, including equipment and facilities maintenance.
  • Establish and enforce discipline and sportsmanship standards, including penalties for breach of such standards.
  • Attend to academic classroom work, using acceptable methodology and techniques of teaching.
  • Prepare and submit reports to the Athletic Office, including lists of participating athletes, lettermen, and equipment inventory.
  • Provide a safe and supportive environment for athletes, including valuables storage and supervision.
  • Ensure athletes are well-informed about athletic eligibility rules and regulations.
  • Limit athlete absences and ensure compliance with game and contest limits.
  • Be knowledgeable of rules and regulations regarding softball, as presented in the NMAA handbook.
  • Conduct oneself in a manner that reflects positively on the team, school, and community.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Possess or qualify for New Mexico coaching license.
  • Teacher experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of softball rules and regulations.
  • Valid driver's license.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to demonstrate softball skills and techniques.
  • Sitting, standing, lifting, and carrying (up to 50 pounds).
  • Reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, and moving equipment/boxes up to 50 lbs.

Safety & Health:

  • Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions.
  • Knowledge and training in first aid procedures for athletic-related injuries.

Equipment/Material Handled:

  • Ability to operate multi-media equipment, including current technology.
  • Knowledge of whirlpools, weight machines, and sports aid equipment.

Work Environment:

  • Ability to work in various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality.
  • Work surfaces will vary from concrete to grass to hardwood floors.
  • Job responsibilities require both inside and outside assignments.
  • Interruptions of work are routine.
  • Flexibility and patience are required.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision.
