Role Summary: The Associate Managing Attorney, Civil Rights is dedicated to addressing the legal needs pertaining to civil rights within the American Muslim community. This position offers a significant opportunity to lead efforts in tackling civil rights issues that affect American Muslims in a community-focused setting. Responsibilities include managing and enhancing civil rights legal services, leading a dedicated team, and advocating for justice and civil rights within the community.

Reporting Structure: This position reports directly to the Managing Attorney and oversees the Civil Rights Attorney, Civil Rights Coordinator, and Law Clerks.

Work Schedule: This is a full-time role with occasional requirements for evening and weekend work.

Location: The position is based in the Santa Clara office, featuring a hybrid work model that includes both in-person and remote work. Travel throughout the Bay Area is necessary, requiring a vehicle, insurance, and a valid driver's license.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and oversight to the Civil Rights legal team.
  • Manage casework and supervise volunteers.
  • Conduct client intake, prepare legal documentation, and represent clients in legal matters.
  • Engage in community outreach and educational initiatives.
  • Research legal resources, prepare necessary documentation, and evaluate client needs.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on marketing efforts and reporting activities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong commitment to civil rights and the mission of the organization.
  • Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited institution and membership in the California bar.
  • Experience in civil rights law and in managing legal personnel.
  • Excellent leadership, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork capabilities.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and a high degree of self-motivation.
  • Proficient computer skills and the ability to navigate the Bay Area.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with the American Muslim community or within non-profit organizations.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based applications and proficiency in languages such as Arabic, Farsi, or Urdu.

Compensation Package:

  • Salary is commensurate with experience.
  • Includes health insurance, retirement contributions, and paid holidays.
