Mental Health Technician Part Time Evening

Under the supervision of a registered nurse and in collaboration with other members of a multidisciplinary team, the Mental Health Technician provides treatment to patients with mental illness. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of behavioral health principles and be able to work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
Key Responsibilities- Provides one-to-one interaction with patients, assisting with daily living activities and promoting a safe and supportive environment.
- Assists with patient intake, admission, and discharge processes, including collection of objective data and patient unit orientation.
- Performs patient, body, and property searches, and secures patient property.
- Participates in patient care conferences and treatment-planning meetings as requested.
- Obtains vital signs, performs specimen collection, and assists with physical examinations as needed.
- Assists patients with activities of daily living, such as eating, dressing, bathing, and laundry.
- Monitors and documents patient observations, 1:1 interactions, intervention/actions taken, and the patient's response to interventions provided by the Mental Health Technician.
- Completes court petitions, accompanies patients to court, and testifies to substantiate the need for court-ordered treatment.
- Assists professional staff with restraint and seclusion as needed.
- Performs routine clerical functions, such as answering phones, computer input, and retrieval of information, ordering and stocking unit equipment and supplies, generating and distributing reports, updating unit census, and other informational boards.
- Ensures that patient care equipment is clean and in good working order.
- Promotes guest relations, anticipating and responding to needs of others, and provides assistance in a quick and courteous manner.
- Treats others with care and respect while maintaining privacy, confidentiality, and dignity.
- Maintains a professional appearance and a clean, safe environment.
- One year of college study in behavioral health or equivalent combination of education and experience in an adult mental health setting AND one year of related clinical experience working with mentally ill patients.
- Successful completion of annual recipient rights training, physical management in-service, and demonstration, maintains active CPR certification.
